hello! welcome to my website. i'm ryō. here you can find some information about me and my hobbies, and some extra links to my other social pages.

i have many interests, and my focus typically changes from month to month, but a majority of my time is spent between any and all things otaku; anime, manga, vns, doujinshi, japanese music, vidya, etc. i also spend time reading classic literature, with a predilection for nineteenth century works, and watching film. i'm currently learning japanese, but my approach is quite unstructured and at a random pace so i'm not particularly advanced. it's enough to get by. (´・◡・｀)

despite being a hikineet for over a decade now, i try to spend a month or so in japan as often as possible, when finances allow. i suppose it's unsurprising, but it will always be my favorite place to be.

music, anime & vidya

music is one of my biggest passions, and i've played guitar, bass and drums for the majority of my life. i also produce music for fun; mostly ambient/drone inspired by some of my favorite anime, and occasionally 90s-era metallic hardcore.

these days, i'm mostly listening to j-rock/j-pop, microsound, hyperglitch, metallica hardcore, idm, denpa and sextrance. my favorite band of all time is sakanaction. i spend far too much money importing their live blu-rays and watching anything they release via their NF membership program. i'm involved in the sakanaction overseas fan club discord server too, which you can find a link for in the sidebar. i also love gesu no kiwami otome (my alias is taken from their second album; i highly recommend it), indigo la end, sokoninaru, ........., mikazuki bigwave, cody lee, klang ruler, silent siren, kami-sama i have noticed, sugiyama kiyotaka & omega tribe, and idol groups such as fruits zipper, peel the apple, mameshiba no taigun, and takane no nadeshiko.

as for anime, my favorites are shoujo shuumatsu ryokou, sonny boy, evangelion, serial experiments lain, kimi wa houkago insomnia, sakamichi no apollon, omoide poroporo, and tenshi no tamago. other shows i enjoy include cardcaptor sakura, genshiken, lucky star, tanaka-kun wa itsumo kedaruge, bocchi the rock, flcl, grand blue, haibane renmei, initial d, non non biyori, gunbuster, and vinland saga. you can safely assume that i like just about any violent, nsfw ova from the 80s/90s too. they're pretty much all interesting to me. my taste has always dictated which shows i choose to watch rather than following any kind of critical or community consensus, so lately i've been trying to catch up on a lot of the medium's acclaimed series that i missed, while balancing my own interests alongside.

games that i enjoy wasting the most time in are early-to-mid 2000s fps titles such as f.e.a.r. and cod2/promod, and i'm a big fan of racing games, especially those which draw major influence from jdm and street racing culture. the majority of my time is spent playing on pc, and i like emulation for systems such as the snes and pc-fx, but from time to time i like to play psx/ps2-era games on native hardware with a sony trinitron kv-14m1u crt which i bought a few years ago. i have a strong preference for retro games, so everything up to and including the fifth generation of home consoles.
